Unit Projects
The idea of the unit project is to show me that you understand what you have (1) read in class, (2) watched in class, and (3) heard in class. The goal of this project is to first analyze what we have done in class and what is happening in the world around you and then synthesize all of this information.
Here are the steps to follow for this project: 1. Read Chapters assigned for each Unit Project. I will let you know at the beginning of each project what chapters to read.
2. Make sure you have notes from non-book information (first unit project only) and videos we watch in class .
3. Once you have this information now comes the synthesis component. You need to show me how the information you have received in class relates to real world events that have occurred in the past year.
4. The written part of the project must be in list form (see included example). a. First define a concept or idea. You must put the concept or idea in YOUR words. It will certainly be similar to the exact definition but you cannot just cut and past the definition. It should be written as if you were telling me what “supply” is if I asked you. You only need one sentence for part a.
b. Next, tell me how the article discusses the concept or idea from part “a”. This summary must be a minimum of three sentences. DO NOT copy any part of the article but summarize it in your own words!
C. Finally, include the EXACT webpage or bibliographic information for the source of your summary.
Example for write up:
Ch.1 1. a. define concept or idea b. summary of article. c. website/bibliographic information
2. a. define concept or idea b. summary of article. c. website/bibliographic information
etc.
5. You must use 10 ideas or concepts from each chapter and video (plus Origin of Economic notes for Unit Project I only).
6. Once you have decided what ideas and concepts you want to write about start finding real world examples of the points you have chosen. Five of the ten sources must be from foreign news sources. Put an * next to the number of which you use a foreign news source.
7. The real world examples must come from a legitimate news source not sites like wikipedia or blogs. You must show proof of where you find the example (bibliography, website address, etc.).
8. The paper must be turned in on turnitin.com. The class ID is: 4659925 P.W.:dhoma You do not need to turn in a hard copy.
9. You CANNOT use other people’s work or papers from a past semester. Turnitin.com archives all past papers. You certainly may work with other people but all content of the work must be yours! You CANNOT use the same articles or summaries of the articles. I want YOU to show me what YOU have learned.
Due dates will be listed on my website.
Don’t forget, I DO NOT take late work! Don’t put this off until the night before.
If you have any questions or problems with the project please come in and speak with me.
